MakingYourOwnCandles is a small business owned and operated by Peta Partner with the technical and marketing assistance of her husband Kev.

In 2009 we watched an episode of "Kirstie's Homemade Home" in which Kirstie made candles. Both of us had a hankering for trying it out so we went to our local "hobby" retailer and purchased a candle making kit. What a crashing disappointment it was. A small plastic mould, a tiny quantity of wax, no scent and confusing instructions all for the princely sum of £12.

Undaunted, we set about working out what bits and pieces we needed and sourcing them from candle making suppliers. After much experimentation, we came up with a fool-proof combination of the right equipment and the right method for consistently getting excellent results using nothing more than a couple of old saucepans.

In late 2009, we decided it wasn't fair to keep this to ourselves so we set up an experimental shop selling various versions of our kits. To say this was a success would be a massive understatement, it seems our kits really hit a nerve both with people looking for an unusual and creative gift and with people wanting to try this hobby out for themselves. We sold hundreds of kits in a five week period before Christmas and had universally excellent feedback from our customers in terms of the quality of the kit, the value for money and our customer service (which is very human).

So, MakingYourOwnCandles is now a permanent business offering a range of candle making kits along with low-cost refills that allow you to make another batch in a different scent/dye combination (or the same if you want!). So far, we have sold over 10,000 products and our range now has over 75 core products in literally hundreds of variations.

The Ordering Process

Once you've selected your product, you'll be able to pay for it using our secure ordering system and secure payment processing. We use BigCommerce, one of the foremost ecommerce systems in the world which includes the most rigorous data protection system. This means that our site is Payment Card Industry compliant and therefore completely safe. Our payment processing is handled by PayPal and Nochex. We don't hold any of your details on our systems, payment data is held by PayPal or Nochex (depending on whether you pay by card or not) and order management data by BigCommerce.

Peta will then assemble your kit in her workshop. We aim to despatch within 24 hours and we always obtain proof of posting. Our system offers various posting options so you can choose one to suit the urgency of the order and your budget.
